June 2014
At this house-sit we have 3 cats, 2 dogs, 2 fish, 6 hens, 1 rooster, 3 billy goats,
8 nanny goats, 4 of whom need daily milking, 1 that is in training for milking and 1 of whom is pregnant.
There are also fences to repair and garden beds to weed.
They were all crowing and bleating so I went out to record them and they stopped and
started again when I walked away, so they must be camera shy!
Anyway, here are some of the animals on this hobby farm.
They are only really interested in us if we bring them food. One goat came to suss me out and when it was clear that I was empty handed (except for the camera which is of no use to them as they don't have the opposable thumbs that are required to operate it) they walked in the other direction. I try to not take it personally!
View from the front verandah at sunset
2 happy fish
2 of the 3 cats are sisters, and although their owners know who is who, I can only tell them apart
when they are together, so this is either Poppy or Lola smooching Pamela's leg
Here are Poppy (left) and Lola (right and blurry)
One of the nannies waiting to be milked
Here is Pamela mixing the feed for the goats
Here is Pamela milking one of the nannies. As a new mother herself I can relate to these goats!
Horace is the most senior animal here at nearly 16 years
This is Angel the day after his owners left
Angel 1 week later: "Owners? What owners?"
Storm!
